Over the water a voice resounds.
The leader has charisma and pleasant words.
The nation sheds its hope on him.
Flattered by attention and success and supported by his lackeys, the leader
uses his position to satisfy his Avidità
(Greed).

'Ascoltate e vedete' was inspired by one of ‘the Seven Deadly Sins’, a painting by Hieronymus Bosch. (The Seven Deadly Sins, Madrid, Prado)

It was a collaboration project of Maartje van der Kruis and Sarah van der Dungen (visual artists), Paul Frankhuijzen (composer) and Ulrike Doszman
(choreographer) for Boschparade 2011.

Different cultures as an influence

Recompose J.S. Bach

Art and music as performance
John Sebastian Bach knows better than anyone
to see through the soul of a solo instrument.
Recompose violin sonata g-minor J.S. Bach
Lyrical, strong thematically,
mysticism, comprehensive,
sophisticated, deeper layers,
or music that hits you.

Frankhuijzen turns the rules in his
G-minor project.
He has composed new contemporary
parts for violin, viola and cello and
Bach's violin sonata becomes a
stringquartet.

A contemporary continuation of the tradition.

It becomes clear from the Chamber Opera 'Peripteron'
that Frankhuijzen has an interest in early music.
In this work the performers are confronted with the mythical stratification throughout thecenturies. An opera in which sacral rituals as well as contemporary complexity merge into one sole sound.
It is one great winged tour through the temple of Esklepios.
A work for two soloists, vocal ensemble and recorder quartet.
